Money and Prices in Belarus: Information Content of Different Monetary Aggregates [08/12/2003]

This paper examines the influence of different monetary aggregates (M0, M1, and M2) on consumer price index in Belarus based on quarterly data for the period of 1992-2002. The long-run and short-run aspects of the relationship between money supply growth and consumer prices increase are analyzed using cointegration technique and vector equilibrium correction model. The information content of these monetary aggregates and possibilities of its use in forecasting inflation and conducting of monetary policy is evaluated.



Regional Integration and Trade-Related Technology Diffusion: The Case of Belarus [07/12/2003]

The article analyses the static and dynamic economic effects of Belarus’ participation in the CIS countries Customs Union in 1995-2000. Utilizing the set of methodologies proposed in the literature it was proved that Belarus’ membership in CIS regional trade arrangement results in trade diversion effects especially in the group of medium and high-tech products. Econometric evaluation focuses on the assessment of the impact of the Customs Union on revealed comparative advantage, which was calculated for group of medium- and hi-tech products as easily interpretable measure of their competitiveness and efficiency of production.

The article analyses the essence of a socially oriented market economy, the possible classification criteria are considered, and corresponding types are emphasized. The most significant country models are considered in details. That refers to such states as Germany and Sweden. Most essential features of the models of a social economy are revealed and possible development tendencies are determined.



Estimation of Enterprise’s Potential Conditioned by Its Human Resources [04/12/2003]

The article presents an author’s approach to treatment of the essence of human resources as production system like producers of the results of enterprise’s activities and their estimation in that quality, and also an analysis of advantages and disadvantages of the existing approaches to an estimation of human resources’ potential. Human resources, taking into account their role in the process of production of the results of production system’s activities, are considered and estimated as a set of the following three main productive components: man’s physiological capability to work, qualification, workers’ motivation. The article offers a methodology of estimation of each of the above-mentioned productive components of human resources.
